A retro Latin and R&B band featuring the songs of lead groove defender/guitarist Willie Wolf. Willie realized his awesome powers and super-human strength after several years as a sideman of note in countless bands during Bushwick’s days of DIY music and art. In his basement apartment in Greenpoint, surrounded by gentrification and other injustices, he decided to fight back with his most formidable weapon—vintage Latin and R&B grooves. Music blogger RockStarWannaBe recently called Willie and the Wolves “a class act” with “supreme talent,” describing the Latin numbers as full of “that sultry sound that makes it easy to imagine the sun on your back, coconut trees swaying in a balmy breeze, sipping a frozen piña colada and saying to yourself, ‘Life is good.’” She praised Willie’s R&B tunes as “equally mesmerizing” and credited lead singer Anne DeAcetis with “an amazing voice.” Last year, Willie Wolf assembled his top-notch team of co-defenders to launch a special assault on our hipsterized, hyper-connected modern world. With their just-released, eponymous CD, this band’s formula for battling evil is simple—they lay down the groove and you move.
