Her saxophone sound has an organic warmth that is rare for the instrument, incorporating influences of bright jazz and dark classical styles and tonal colors.
Lauren has performed with several symphony orchestras and concert bands in the Southeast and has appeared in concert with the Wycliffe Gordon, the Temptations, Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, and Jesse Colin Young.
Mike Frost is, in the parlance of our times, all about that bass. The Aikenite is a former student of Jaco Pastorius, and his sensei’s influence shows in Frost’s deep understanding of advanced harmony with ferocious technical prowess. But there’s plenty of crisp treble in his eponymous band, whose smooth crossover jazz boasts flourishes of fusion, hard bop, Latin jazz and more. — Patrick Wall, Free Times, Columbia, SC
Lauren Meccia comes across like a real musician who happens to sing. As a vocalist she has a crystal clear sound that rings like a bell, and can effortlessly go for drawing out a lyric… and yet she can also clip out a series of words like she’s jumping through an obstacle course… Her voice resonates like a glass organ. -George Harris, JazzWeekly.com
Lauren Meccia’s impressive vocals are the focus here. She can be smooth, but also find moments to really soar. -Michael Doherty, Michael Doherty’s Music Log
Meccia… commands your attention whether it’s on stage or part of a recording. -Ed Turner, Augusta Chronicle
